**You'll need two pertitions in order to install Ubuntu. Create one pertition with 20 GB and another with 40 MB. Actually ubuntu requires only 5 GB to install. But we'll create 20GB. The 40 MB pertition will be used as swap space. After creating these pertitions lt's start the process...
Installation Process :
Installing ubuntu is not so complicated. But some users fail to understand the installation process. Even the first time I could not install. But I hope my tutorial will make it easy to you. Let us start.
At first go to http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop and download the 32-bit desktop version of Ubuntu. Please get the latest version. Till today (20-08-2012) "Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangoline" is the latest version. The iso file about 700 MB. It should be downloaded without any problem.
Now after downloading we have to burn the iso to a disc or create a bootable USB. To install with a pen drive we have to download a small tool. Go to this link to download the tool http://www.pendrivelinux.com/. If you want to learn how to create a bootable USB using this tool go to this link http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/. If you want to install using a bootable disc then burn the downloaded ubuntu in a writable disc using Nero, UltraISO or other similiar softwares. I am using a disc to install Ubuntu. Ok now when we have a bootable disc insert the disc into your DVD drive and reboot your PC. When your PC shows the name of the manufacturer tap F12 and select Disc Drive if you are using a bootable disc or select USB if you are using a bootable pen drive. After selecting the boot device following screen should appear.
Wait few moments. Then following screen will appear.
If you want to try Ubuntu then click Try Ubuntu or click Install Ubuntu if you want to install without trying. Now I'm clicking on the Install Ubuntu button. After clicking the Install Ubuntu button following window should appear.
If you are connected to the internet then check the Install this third-party software. If you have a fast internet connection then check the Download updates while installing box. But I did not checked any box during the installation. Ok after finishing this step click Continue. Now following window should appear.
If you have another OS in your PC then you will get an option to install Ubuntu alongside your previous OS. Choose you installation type and click Continue. In the next window select Advaced Pertitioning. Now double click on the pertition where you want to install Ubuntu. Select Format The Pertition and in the boot point from the drop down menu select "/" as boot point.Also double click on another pertition with 40MB space, select Swap Area as boot point. In my case i erased my HDD and installed ubuntu.
Now do the next simple steps. Select your country, keyboard layout and make your user account. Now sit back and wait untill the installation finishes.
Congratulation you have successfully installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin.
